THE FINDINGS OF GEL FALDIRAN MINES
Gel Faldir's newest mine was a sea of dwarves and gems, all bustling in and out of the gaping entrance.
Towards the back of the entry way, a gruff dwarf stood waving his arms at me. I shimmied my way through the throngs of miners to my guide. I couldn’t tell if he greeted me under his thick, salt n’ pepper beard, but I nodded my thanks as he turned and led me into a sectioned off tunnel.
It was loud and quiet all at once.
Devoid of the bustling miners, every drip and creak and step echoed down the endless tunnel system. The cuts in the wall were fresh, as was the wood in the tunnel’s beams, and the newness served to ward off the eerie sense of abandonment.
Alight with my staff’s candle, the underbelly of the mountain seemed alive. Uneven walls bent and flexed, showcasing glittering veins of gold. The wooden beams became a skeleton in the dim light, moving slightly with the earth’s smokey breath.
No… not the earth.
Deeper in the labyrinthine mine, I saw the tunnel open up into a deep cavern. Rail tracks gave way to monstrous grooves etched deep into the path.
I’d found my mark.
